As the PCB manufacture technologies improving, printed circuit boards tend to be with smaller vias and an increasing number of layers. Usually, each layer of multilayer PCB has different material hence drilling becomes a challenge given that very design has wide varieties of drill hole size, different aspect ratio, feed and speed requirements. As there is not much room for error, the tighter manufacturing tolerances demand a reliable registration process of conductive pattern and holes. Drilling affects the plating and connectivity which further impacts the reliability of a circuit board. To have high precision drilling capabilities is one of the key steps in well performance and high-technical-level PCB fabrication.

At PCB ShinTech, we deploy the following advanced technologies to ensure that there are no roadblocks to a project when it comes to drilling.

l  Drilling and routing machines with integrated vision capability.

l  Inner-layer targets detection and coordinates measuring system using x-ray and camera.

l  Drilling and routing high end multilayer product assisted by camera and/or X-ray.

We have Schmoll Drilling Machine for precision drill hole registration and milling solution with the optical registration has been established for high-precision drilling or milling solutions. This machine has integrated camera systems (i.e. Camera Controlled Drilling and Routing, CCD) to compensate production defect or minimize error. The high resolution camera is fixed directly in the drilling machine, to find the optimal drill position for each via or to determine the optimal milling route, respectively.

At the same time, with the help of high-resolution deep-focus cameras system, the layer registration of the inner layers is determined, for example, X-/Y- axis shift, shrinkage or expansion, rotation. Then the best hole pattern can be determined, and thus the effective alignment of the remaining annular rings.

The inner layer and outer layer registration for scaling and CAM database with compensation value helps manufacture high performing PCBs.
